On a video online, fish-shaped lanterns move in the air as if they are swimming in the water. Students from Shenzhen Yangang Middle School invented these AI fish lanterns. They are all members of the school science club. Tan Wenbo is a high-school senior student who is responsible for the system’s (系统) development. He explained that a sensor (传感器) on the head of a lantern would recognize (辨别) different shapes. Then it would send the result to drive the paper fish to perform moves. By the time Jiang Jiahan joined the club, the first model was completed. “The old model’s weight was too heavy to carry,” he said. Then he made lanterns out of Xuan paper (宣纸) and iron wiring (铁线). The improvement successfully cut the lantern’s weight from five kilograms to two kilograms.
Yang Tao worked on the AI system’s coding (编码) part. He said he had no programming experience before. Then he taught himself to code after joining the fish-lantern project. Besides the AI fish lantern, members of the science club are also using their knowledge on their scientific inventions. When you find math hard, you usually ask teachers or parents for help. But now, doctors can help you too!
On Oct 8, 2024, Shanghai opened a special clinic (门诊) for children who have problems with math and spatial (空间的) understanding. On that day, six students went there with their parents.
At the clinic, doctors checked how well the students understood math and their spatial skills, and then made plans to help them learn better. They even had special educational games with VR and AR technologies to help students.
A recent study found that about 8. 97 percent of children at primary school in China have trouble with math and spatial skills, reported Shanghai Daily. Among them, 11.57 percent are in low grades, 10.07 percent are in middle grades and 4.76 percent are in high grades.
The clinic is open every Tuesday. It’s very popular with days getting fully booked.
Special clinics for helping with learning problems are becoming common in China, especially in big cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, and Nanjing.
However, experts remind parents that these clinics may help students, but they can’t magically turn them into top students. It’s more important to have realistic (实际的) expectations. Then the results may be acceptable.
Shi Ping from Tianjin Children’s Hospital says that putting too much pressure on kids can sometimes make learning harder. Parents should think about how they teach their kids and consider making some changes.

Pickleball has been played in big cities, such as Beijing and Shanghai. Young people in Anhui, Shandong, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Hubei, Guizhou and Yunnan provinces are also interested in the sport and setting up clubs.

And this makes pickleball a sport almost for anyone, anywhere and anytime.
Wu Xiaomeng from Chongqing agrees. He happened to learn about pickleball and tried it out with some friends in September, 2024. “It is an equal (平等的) game for both men and women, as it requires more skill than physical power,” he said. “It is a good social activity as anyone can easily pick out this sport and play it for fun.
