In 1921, long before the Walt Disney Company turned Pooh into an international star of TV and films, Christopher Robin Milne was given a toy bear on his first birthday from his father, A. A. Milne, who bought the stuffed animal from a store. The stuffed animal was named Edward Bear. Years later, Edward was named Winnie. From the time Christopher Robin Milne was a baby until he was about 8 years old, he would receive different stuffed animals.
A. A. Milne was a famous English writer. As he watched his son interact (互动) with Winnie and friends, A. A. Milne thought his child’s interaction with the collection of animals would make a great bedtime story. So Milne worked with artist Ernest H. Shepard and wrote the first Winnie the Pooh poem, where Edward Bear was known as “Teddy Bear”. The writings appeared in Punch magazine and in the book they wrote together, When We Were Young, which was published in 1924. In a four-year period, three more books that focused on the bear and his team followed: 1926’s Winnie-the-Pooh, 1927’s Now We Are Six, and 1928’s The House at Pooh Corner.
The books and poems about Pooh brought great success to the writer, and the characters became favorites with young children and their families around the world. Their popularity led Disney to get the rights (版权) to make films about the characters in 1961. Five years later, Pooh, Tiger, Piglet and the rest of the team appeared on screen for the first time in Winnie-the-Pooh and the Honey Tree. The characters later appeared in TV shows, movies, video games and short films. Have you ever heard the sound of a hummingbird They make a buzzing noise when they fly. They make this noise because they beat their wings so fast. They beat their wings up to 80 times a second. All that flapping makes a lot of noise. That’s why we call them hummingbirds.
Hummingbirds fly in a special way. They move their wings so fast that they can hover. This means that they can stay in one spot in the middle of the air like a helicopter. Sometimes they fly upside down. They are the only bird that flies backward.
Hummingbirds are small. One type called the bee hummingbird is the smallest bird in the world. Bee hummingbirds weigh less than a penny. They are just a little bit bigger than bees. I guess that’s why they get their name.
Hummingbirds move fast. It takes lots of energy to move as fast as they do. This means that they need to eat a lot of food. Their favorite food is nectar, a sweet liquid (液体) inside of some flowers. They drink more than their own weight of nectar daily. They have to visit hundreds of flowers to get enough nectar to live.
Hummingbirds help flowers too. They get pollen (花粉) on their heads and bills (鸟嘴) when they feed. Flowers use pollen to make seeds. Hummingbirds help pollen get from one flower to the next. This helps flowers make more seeds. More seeds mean more flowers. More flowers mean more food for hummingbirds. Isn’t it nice how that works out
33. Why are they called hummingbirds
A. They are very light. B. They sing when they fly.
C. Their wings make a humming sound. D. Their songs sound like humming.
34. Which best defines the word “hover” as used in Paragraph 2

C. To look like a helicopter. D. To move the wings very fast.

C. Hummingbirds use lots of energy to fly quickly.
D. Hummingbirds drink as much as their own weight in nectar every day.
36. Which of the following is the best title of this passage
A. Some interesting facts about small birds. B. How birds and flowers work together.
C. Bee hummingbirds: the world’s biggest birds. D. Hummingbirds: special and helpful.
D
①That future is almost here. “I think it’s going to happen in ten years. And hopefully much, much faster,” said Jason Becker in 2021. At that time, his young company Volantix Systems was working on developing a flying car known as eVTOL, or Electronic Vertical Take-Off and Landing vehicle (车辆).
②Flying to work or school sounds unbelievable. “Not only is it fun to fly, but it would never be crowded again, because the sky is very, very large,” says Jason. He also thinks eVTOLs could be greener than common cars. “We go much faster, we go in a straight line, and we fly with less energy,” he says.
③So far, though, flying cars haven’t taken off as a product. Will their day come There are still many problems to solve. Their high price means most people won’t be able to afford one. So, some companies are developing them as air taxis that people could pay to ride. The main problem with flying cars is safety. Accidents in the air are dangerous to both the passengers and anyone on the ground beneath. To make eVTOLs safer, many developers are aiming to make them self-flying—no human pilot required.
④Another problem is space. Most aircraft need long runways to take off and land. Lifting straight up and down like a helicopter solves this problem. But eVTOLs still need special spaces, called vertiports, for take-off and landing. Finding places to put these could be tricky, especially in crowded cities. But maybe some could go on top of buildings.
⑤What do you think Would you enjoy riding to school or visiting a friend in a self-flying taxi Is flying cars a good idea, or should we find other ways to get around in the near future
37. How does the writer lead into the topic
A. By asking questions. B. By giving examples.
C. By showing opinions. D. By sharing experiences.
38. Which of the following are the challenges for the development of flying cars
①high price ②take-off and landing space ③air traffic jam ④safety
A. ①②③ B. ②③④ C. ①②④ D. ①③④
39. What is the possible structure of the passage
(①=Paragraph 1 ②=Paragraph 2,...)
A. B. C. D.
40. What is Jason Becker’s opinion about the future of flying cars
A. He thinks it will never happen.
B. He thinks it will happen in the next century.
C. He is not sure about the future of flying cars.
D. He believes it will happen in ten years and even faster.

Next, we discussed how to use body language effectively. Through games and practice, the children learned about the importance of clear communication. This helped them become more confident in expressing themselves.
Then, we learned about a traditional Chinese skill: paper cutting. We showed them how to cut simple patterns. The purpose was to help them understand and appreciate our cultural heritage.
Finally, we organized some outdoor games. Playing together helped build teamwork and brought us all closer.
I think this volunteering experience was very meaningful. It made me happy to see the children smiling. I learned that even small actions can bring joy to others. I hope to join more activities like this in the future.
