“A doctor predicted I wouldn’t live past 20. But now I’m 29, happy with my life,” says Ma Jun, a recent winner of a prestigious (声誉高的) literary award. Ma, who uses a wheelchair, has overcome countless obstacles with incredible determination.
Born with a condition that left his limbs weak, Ma’s childhood was lonely. While other children ran and played, he could only watch from the stone steps of his home, a memory that became the title of his award-winning book, The Green and White Stone Steps. His journey into writing began after a great sacrifice. To ensure his younger brother could afford to stay in school, Ma gave up his own chance to attend university. This selfless decision, born of love, left him feeling hopeless and confined to his bed.
The turning point came when a friend gave him a book by Shi Tiesheng, a famous writer who also used a wheelchair. At first, Ma had no interest, but the word “wheelchair” caught his eye. Reading about someone who turned similar struggles into profound literature was like a spark of light in his darkness. Shi’s unwavering (坚定的) hope inspired Ma to believe that a person with physical challenges could still lead a meaningful and joyful life.
Inspired by Shi, Ma found his new path: literature. He realized he could do something meaningful instead of letting life pass him by. He spent the next three years writing his book, pouring his own life experiences onto the pages. Publishing seemed like another impossible obstacle due to a lack of resources, but he submitted his work to a national project for ethnic writers. Against all odds, his powerful story was recognized, proving that the human spirit can triumph over the greatest of challenges.
24. Why did Ma decide not to attend university
A. He had lost interest in his studies. B. He was advised against it by doctors.
C. He wanted his brother to stay in school. D. He preferred to begin his writing career.
25. How does the author seem to feel about Ma Jun

C. He is doubtful of his future success. D. He is sympathetic but critical.
26. What did Ma most likely learn from Shi Tiesheng’s book
A. Writing skills can be easily acquired. B. One’s passion can be found in reading.
C. Family support is essential for success. D. Physical disability does not define one’s life.
27. What does Ma’s journey in writing his book suggest
A. Success in writing requires financial support.
B. Difficult life experiences can inspire great art.
C. It is better to write about joy than sadness.
D. Young writers often struggle to get published.

The world has many podcasts led by comedians, but I’m ADHD! No You’re Not is different. It offers a meaningful and emotional look at attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD, 小儿多动症). The podcast is hosted by Dr. Mine Conkbayir, an expert in brain science who was diagnosed (诊断) with ADHD as an adult, and her husband, comedian Paul Whitehouse.
Their discussions explore the scientific and personal sides of ADHD. Dr. Conkbayir sees her diagnosis as a way to understand her past struggles. Whitehouse, however, is doubtful about the recent rise in ADHD diagnoses, although he jokes that he might have it too. Their different views create an interesting dynamic. As the show goes on, Dr. Conkbayir gets better at interviewing, and Whitehouse’s doubt slowly turns into curiosity, making the podcast both educational and entertaining.
The show invites various guests to share their edian Rory Bremner, the first guest, talks about how common ADHD is among comedians. He thinks his late diagnosis might have slowed his career. Other guests, like actor Denise Welch, share different experiences, showing the wide-ranging impact of ADHD. The hosts’ good relationship creates a safe and comfortable place for guests to share openly. In some touching moments, they are asked if they would “keep” their ADHD if they had a choice. Most guests see it as a part of who they are, not just a problem to be fixed.
The podcast is part of a growing discussion about ADHD, a condition that affects about 5% of children and 2.5% of adults worldwide. A documentary called Backfired: Attention Deficit looks at how ADHD changed from a label for “high-energy boys” to a very common diagnosis (诊断) today. It notes that in the U.S., over 10% of children are now diagnosed, a big difference from the UK’s more careful approach. This makes us think about societal pressures and the line between brain differences and disorders.
28. What makes the podcast I’m ADHD! No You’re Not stand out
A. It is co-hosted by a comedian.
B. It frequently features well-known public figures.
C. It explains ADHD through complex scientific research.
D. It provides a deep and personal exploration of ADHD.
29. What does the underlined word “dynamic” in paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Conflict. B. Interaction. C. Performance. D. Agreement.
30. What can be inferred from the guests’ attitude toward ADHD
A. They think it is a condition that needs a cure.
B. They see it as an essential element of their personality.
C. They regret not receiving a check-up in their childhood.
D. They feel it has been nothing but a barrier to their success.
31. What is the main purpose of the last paragraph
A. To explain the hosting style of the podcast.
B. To criticize the rising trend of ADHD diagnosis.
C. To summarize the guests’ personal experiences.
D. To expand the discussion to a wider social perspective.
D
Social media is a huge part of modern teenage life, offering amazing connection but also risking mental health. While some praise its power to build communities and encourage self-expression, its negative effects are too serious to ignore, requiring us to seriously rethink its role.
On the one hand, social media provides a vital space for young people, especially those from marginalized (边缘化的) groups, to find support and share experiences. It makes it easier to access information and learn about different views. For many, it is also an important outlet for creativity, which can build confidence and a sense of belonging. The ability to keep friendships with people far away is another clear benefit.
However, the negative impacts often seem greater. The main danger is the “perfect life” often shown online. Seeing endless perfect images and lifestyles fuels social comparison, leading to feelings of inadequacy, anxiety, and depression. The constant chase for “likes” makes a person’s self-worth depend on public approval, creating huge pressure. Furthermore, cyberbullying (网络欺凌) can cause deep and lasting psychological harm. Sleep problems from late-night scrolling and the addictive design of the apps worsen these issues, harming emotional control during key stages of growth.
Therefore, while social media’s power to connect is clear, its current design is a serious threat to youth mental health. The platforms are built to maximize engagement, often at the cost of well-being, making social pressures and unrealistic expectations worse. The proven increase in anxiety and depression among heavy users highlights this crisis. Acknowledging the benefits is not enough; we must actively reduce the harm. This means teaching young users the skills to navigate (浏览) the digital world safely and healthily, so they don’t become victims of its darker side.
32. What is mentioned as a positive function of social media
A. Offering identity exploration spaces. B. Reducing sleep quality significantly.
C. Increasing face-to-face interactions. D. Removing social barriers completely.
33. Why does the author mention the chase for “likes”
A. To show it builds self-esteem. B. To highlight its motivational role.
C. To criticize its link to self-worth. D. To suggest removing all feedback.
34. What does the text imply about platform design
A. It prioritizes user privacy. B. It seeks engagement over well-being.
C. It focuses on educational goals. D. It is designed by mental health experts.
35. Which title best summarizes the text
A. A Guide to Safe Internet Use
B. The Rise of Digital Communities
C. How to Build Confidence Online
D. Social Media: A Double-Edged Sword for Teens

Maya’s tiny flower stall at the edge of Briarwood Market was more than just a business; it was her lifeline. Every morning before dawn, she arranged bunches of vibrant tulips, delicate lilies, and cheerful daisies with meticulous care. Her customers knew her not just for the freshness of her blooms, but for her warm smile and unwavering (坚定的) fairness. “Honesty,” her grandmother used to say while teaching her to tie bouquets, “is the rarest and most beautiful flower you can grow.”
One autumn Tuesday, the market buzzed with unusual energy. A grand opening for a luxury department store, “Thorne & Co.,” was happening down the street. Among the influx of well-dressed shoppers was Mr. Alistair Thorne himself, the store’s imposing owner. He paused at Maya’s stall, drawn by the explosion of color.
“Those sunflowers,” he stated, pointing to a particularly majestic bunch. “How much ”
“Five pounds for the bunch, sir,” Maya replied.
“Excellent. I’ll take two.” Mr. Thorne pulled a sleek leather wallet from his tailored coat. He handed Maya a fifty-pound note. “Keep the change for your trouble,” he said briskly before turning to leave, already distracted by his ringing phone.
Maya’s breath hitched. Fifty pounds The two bunches cost only ten. Forty pounds in change was more than she often made in a morning. Her heart hammered against her ribs. Forty pounds meant new boots before winter, a proper meal every day for a week, maybe even replacing her frayed (磨损的) market umbrella. The crisp note felt heavy in her hand.
She looked at Mr. Thorne’s retreating back, then down at the money. Her grandmother’s voice echoed softly: “Honesty isn’t just when it’s easy, child. It’s when the ground feels shaky beneath your feet.” The temptation was a physical ache, a whisper promising comfort. But the thought of keeping what wasn’t hers felt like wilting (枯萎) the very flowers she sold.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
Taking a deep breath, Maya dashed out from behind her stall. A slow smile spread across Mr. Thorne’s face.

根据文章第二段中的“To ensure his younger brother could afford to stay in school, Ma gave up his own chance to attend university.”
作者在开篇就称马骏为“a recent winner of a prestigious literary award”,并评价他“has overcome countless obstacles with incredible determination”(以惊人的决心克服了无数障碍)。 故选A。
根据第三段中的“At first, Ma had no interest, but the word ‘wheelchair’ caught his eye. Reading about someone who turned similar struggles into profound literature was like a spark of light in his darkness. Shi’s unwavering (坚定的) hope inspired Ma to believe that a person with physical challenges could still lead a meaningful and joyful life.”
文章最后一段提到,他花了三年时间写作,“pouring his own life experiences onto the pages”(将他自己的生活经历倾注到书页上)。
文章开篇第一句就明确指出“The world has many podcasts led by comedians, but I’m ADHD! No You’re Not is different.”,并随即点明了其与众不同之处在于“It offers a meaningful and emotional look at attention deficit hyperactivity disorder”,即它提供了一个有意义且充满情感视角的ADHD解读。后续段落详细阐述了其深度和个人化探索的具体体现:第二段提到“explore the scientific and personal sides”(探索科学和个人两面性)以及主持人的个人经历;第三段描述了不同嘉宾分享“their stories”和“different experiences”,创造了“a safe and comfortable place”来进行开放分享,这些都支撑了“deep and personal exploration”这一核心特点。故选D。
Conkbayir sees her diagnosis as a way to understand her past struggles. Whitehouse, however, is doubtful about the recent rise in ADHD diagnoses”可知,两位主持人对ADHD持有“不同的观点(different views)”。 下文进一步描述了这种“dynamic”的具体表现:“As the show goes on, Dr. Conkbayir gets better at interviewing, and Whitehouse’s doubt slowly turns into curiosity”,即这是一个随着时间的推移,两人在交流中相互影响、共同变化和发展的互动过程。故选B。
根据第三段中的“In some touching moments, they are asked if they would ‘keep’ their ADHD if they had a choice. Most guests see it as a part of who they are, not just a problem to be fixed.”
因此,D选项“To expand the discussion to a wider social perspective.
选项A中的“identity exploration spaces”(身份探索空间)是对文中“find support and share experiences”和“outlet for creativity”的合理概括。故选A。
根据第三段中的“The main danger is the ‘perfect life’ often shown online. Seeing endless perfect images and lifestyles fuels social comparison, leading to feelings of inadequacy, anxiety, and depression. The constant chase for ‘likes’ makes a person’s self-worth depend on public approval, creating huge pressure.” C“To criticize its link to self-worth.(批评其与自我价值的关联)”符合文意。故选C。
根据第四段中的“Therefore, while social media’s power to connect is clear, its current design is a serious threat to youth mental health. The platforms are built to maximize engagement, often at the cost of well-being, making social pressures and unrealistic expectations worse.” B“It seeks engagement over well-being.(追求参与度而非福祉)”直接对应原文中的“built to maximize engagement, often at the cost of well-being”。故选B。
36. G 空前的句子描述了选择露营车时选项繁多,容易让人不知所措:“With so many models and features on the market, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by choices ranging from compact vans to fully-equipped motorhomes.”;空后的句子引入了如何缩小选择范围的方法:“To narrow down your selection and find the perfect match for your travel style, here’s what to keep in mind.”。选项G“But by focusing on your specific needs, you can find the one to suit your lifestyle.”(但通过关注您的特定需求,您可以找到适合生活方式的那一款)作为过渡句,完美衔接了前文的困惑感和后文的解决方案,强调了“关注需求”这一核心方法,与后文的“keep in mind”形成逻辑连贯。故选G。
37. B 段落小标题“Size Matters — But Bigger Isn’t Always Better”(尺寸重要——但更大并不总是更好),空后直接开始讨论尺寸问题:“Do you need ample space for a family of four, or is it just you and a partner hitting the road ”。选项B“The first thing to consider is size.”(首先要考虑的是尺寸)直接对应小标题和段落内容,作为段落开头的主题句,引入了尺寸考量的重要性,与下文的具体讨论无缝衔接。故选B。
38. D 空前句子强调了对离网功能的需求:“If your idea of adventure involves getting off the beaten path, look for a camper van with off-grid capabilities.”;空后句子解释了这些功能的好处:“These features allow you to stay longer in remote areas without hooking up to external power or water sources.”。选项D“This might include larger water tanks, solar panels, and tires.”(这可能包括更大的水箱、太阳能电池板和轮胎)具体列举了离网功能的组成部分,恰好填充了空白,符合语境。故选D。
39. A 空后句子直接讨论预算的作用:“Your budget will play a big role in determining feasibility.”。 故选A。
40. E 空前句子强调了预算的重要性:“Your budget will play a big role in determining feasibility.”;空后句子提供了预算相关的具体建议:“Consider buying used or opting for a basic model to customize later.”。选项E“New camper vans can be pricey, especially with high-end features.”(新的露营车可能很昂贵,尤其是具有高端功能的)解释了为什么预算重要,并自然引出后文的省钱建议(如购买二手),符合语境。
故选A。
故选A。
选项C. ignore(忽视、不顾)强调主动选择不去考虑危险。故选C。
选项C. return(返回)最符合语境。故选C。
前文已经明确提到工具损坏(“Drills would fail, and tools were smashed”)。
空所在句子为“Through social media, ______ audience began watching and cheering.”(通过社交媒体,______观众开始观看和欢呼。) 选项C. worldwide(全世界的)准确描述了这一现象。故选C。
空后为“she appeared only slightly surprised and remarkably unharmed.”(她看起来只是有点惊讶,而且明显没有受伤。)。 选项A. 故选A。
空所在句子为“This ______ proved that with immense effort and unity, miracles can happen.”(这______证明了巨大的努力和团结可以创造奇迹。)。
故填Although / Though / While。
故填a。
Art Comes Alive: Our School’s Impressionist Adventure
Last Friday, our school organized a captivating trip to the city museum to visit the special exhibition, “Masterpieces of Impressionism.” We explored stunning works by masters such as Monet and Renoir, learning how they used light and color to capture fleeting moments in time. The museum guides explained vividly the revolutionary techniques that defined this beloved movement.
The experience was truly meaningful for all of us. It not only deepened our appreciation for art’s power to portray the world through a unique lens but also transformed our classroom art history lessons into a tangible reality. Seeing these iconic paintings in person ignited our curiosity and offered a fresh perspective on beauty. If you get the chance, don’t miss this exceptional exhibition!
第二节
Taking a deep breath, Maya dashed out from behind her stall. “Sir! Mr. Thorne, please wait!” He turned, a frown creasing his brow. “Sir! The flowers are fine. It’s ... the money.” She held out the fifty-pound note and a ten-pound note from her cash box. “You gave me fifty. The sunflowers are only ten pounds total. Here is your change — forty pounds.” Mr. Thorne stared, first at the money, then at Maya’s earnest face, flushed with exertion and sincerity. His stern expression softened into genuine surprise. “You chased me down ... to return forty pounds ” Maya nodded simply.
A slow smile spread across Mr. Thorne’s face. He took the ten-pound note but gently pushed the fifty back towards her. “Young lady, your honesty is worth far more than forty pounds. Consider the change a recognition of that,” Mr. Thorne praised kindly, “You demonstrated a principle more valuable than any amount of currency. Integrity like yours is the foundation of true success.” Word of Maya’s integrity and her incredible new contract spread through Briarwood Market like wildfire. Integrity was the rarest bloom, and nurturing it had brought the richest rewards. It wasn’t just about returning money; it was about cultivating a life where trust, like her flowers, could truly flourish.

W: Sorry. But we’re often very busy on Fridays.
Text 5
W: My grandmother used to say, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.”
M: What did she mean
W: You shouldn’t simply judge others by their looks. Take that athlete on TV for example. He looks smaller than others. I had guessed he’d lose, but he easily won the race.
Text 6
M: Julia, you’re reading a book
W: Yeah. I’m reading Robinson Crusoe. This is the task I need to complete this month in the reading club.
M: Sounds good. What else did you read in the reading club
W: Last month, I read Waiting for Godot. Even though I finished reading it, I haven’t figured out what it is about.
M: I feel that way about many books. I will get Little Women and read it.
W: Good. Would you like some coffee I’d like a cup of coffee while reading.

M: But we don’t have to be here till Sunday.
W: Yes, I know, but I want to get my things moved into my room, and just take a look around. So, did you decide to major in English
M: No, I changed my mind and opted for history instead. And you’re doing biology if I remember correctly.
W: Yes, although I couldn’t decide between that and geography to start with.
Text 8
W: Would you like some tea
M: Well, could you add sugar in it Last time I came to your place, you also made some tea, but you didn’t add sugar. I couldn’t drink that!
W: I never add sugar. You’d like the way they serve tea in India. They drink chai — a strong black tea served with lots of milk, sugar and spices.
M: Sounds good.
W: Do you know it was the British who introduced tea to India
M: No, I don’t. This is very interesting … I’m proud of our habit of having tea and teabags are great! A great invention!
W: Yes, I agree. I happened to read an article about teabags yesterday. They are older than I thought!
M: When were they invented
W: Wait, let me finish my tea first. It’s getting cold.
Text 9
W: Steven, our audience are curious to know how you got into singing. So tell us about it.
M: Sure. My uncle used to play in a band. I tried to persuade him to let me sing in his band but I failed. I started writing songs at twelve. A famous singer liked one of the songs I wrote. He asked me to go to his studio and he recorded it. It was he who made me start my career as a singer.
W: You went to an art school, didn’t you
M: Right. The classes were good. I had some brilliant teachers. They offered us plenty of chances to get out on stage.
W: Are you working on your new album now
M: Yes, I got lots of ideas for it while I was doing tours in Asia and Europe. I’m sure it’ll be a big hit.
W: And your immediate plans
M: There’s nothing I’d like more than to spend some time with friends. But actually I’m going to be on tour promoting my new album at lots of summer music festivals.
Text 10
M: When Dena answered an ad on social media, her sister warned her that she could have problems, for the ad was a weekend vacation to an unknown destination. In fact, the offer was not only real, but also a lot of fun. The West Virginia Division of Tourism organized the free trip. The social media ad said nothing about the destination. It recommended that people have a sense of adventure. In parts of the United States, mystery trips have grown into their own industry. There are many companies offering mystery tours. Whether traveling by bus, train or airplane, these vacations have different lengths, costs and destinations. Dena went on the trip with a group on December 2nd. They enjoyed dinner, nature and horseback riding. They watched musical acts at a former general store and spent the night at Canaan Valley Resort and Conference Center. By sunset the following day, Dena was back home, and her sister did not have to worry any longer. Dena said, “It was thrilling. I would absolutely do it again, if I can sign up for another unknown destination where I’m not planning anything. It’s part of the adventure.”
