四、阅读理解
Maybe you've eaten a hot dog, but have you ever seen a sundog It's not your dog sleeping in the sun!
A sundog is a weather event. It makes two rainbow lights appear on both sides of the sun. Sometimes they appear with a halo around the sun. Sundogs can be very beautiful, with a red halo near the sun and a blue-and-white centre.
The conditions for forming the sundog need to be just right. Under the sunshine, the ice crystals in the clouds will move slowly to the ground. The crystals act as prisms(棱镜), separating the light and forming the sundog. Sundogs can be seen during any season but are often seen in winter when the sun is lower in the sky. It's also possible for you to see them early or late in the day, when the sun is near the horizon. The most beautiful sundogs happen on sunny days.
Famous writers such as William Shakespeare and Jack London described sundogs in stories and poems as both frightening and amazing. Artists caught the beauty of sundogs in paintings and photos, and rock bands even wrote songs about them.
Ready to try your weather finding skills First, use your hand to stop the centre of the sun to protect your eyes. Search for low clouds in a winter sky and the light around the sun. Be sure to show your sundog smarts to your friends and family, you' ll be their top dog!
