It was a sunny Saturday morning. Tom, a 17-year-old high school student, was excited about his plan for the day. He was going to meet his friends at the local park to play basketball. As he was getting ready, his mother reminded him to take his jacket as it might get cold later. But Tom, thinking it would stay warm, ignored her advice and rushed out of the house.
When he arrived at the park, his friends were already there. They started playing basketball immediately. The game was intense and everyone was having a great time. However, after a couple of hours, dark clouds began to gather and the wind picked up. Soon, it started to rain heavily. Tom and his friends quickly ran to the nearby shelter, but they were already soaked.
Tom regretted not listening to his mother. He was shivering with cold and his teeth were chattering. His friends tried to warm him up, but it didn't seem to help much. Just then, Tom's mother showed up with a warm blanket and a cup of hot chocolate. She had seen the change in the weather and guessed that the boys might be in trouble. Tom felt both embarrassed and grateful. He realized that sometimes parents' advice, even if it seems unnecessary at first, can be very valuable.
After the rain stopped, Tom and his friends decided to go home. Tom thanked his mother again and promised to listen to her more carefully in the future. As he walked home, he thought about how this experience had taught him a lesson about being more responsible and considering the consequences of his actions.

A. Go shopping with his mother. B. Meet his friends to play basketball.
C. Study at the library. D. Watch a movie with his friends.

A. Angry and annoyed. B. Embarrassed and grateful.

B. The value of listening to parents.
C. How to take care of himself in bad weather.
D. The need to be more careful when playing sports.
C
Listen carefully to a spoken conversation and you’ll notice that the speakers use a lot of little quasi-words — mm-hmm, um, huh and the like — that don’t convey any information about the topic of the conversation itself: For many decades, linguists regarded such utterances as largely irrelevant noise. But these little words may be much more important than that. A few linguists now think that they may be crucial traffic signals to control the progression of conversation as well as tools to negotiate mutual understanding.
For most of the history of linguistics, scholars have tended to focus on written language, in large part because that’s what they had records of. But once recordings of conversation became available, they could begin to analyze spoken language the same way as writing. When they did, they observed that interjections — that is, short utterances of just a word or two that are not part of a larger sentence — were ubiquitous in everyday speech.
Many of these interjections serve to regulate the flow of conversation. An um or uh from the speaker, for example, signals that they’re about to pause, but aren’t finished speaking. A quick huh or what from the listener, on the other hand, can signal a failure of communication that the speaker needs to repair. In a survey of 31 languages around the world, researchers found that all of them used a short, neutral syllable similar to huh as a repair signal, probably because it’s quick to produce.
Different interjections can send slightly different signals. Consider, for example, one person describing to another how to build a piece of IKEA furniture, says Allison Nguyen, a psycholinguist at Illinois State University. In such a conversation, mm-hmm might indicate that the speaker should continue explaining the current step, while yeah or OK would imply that the listener is done with that step and it’s time to move on to the next.
28. The phrase “traffic signals” in paragraph 1 emphasizes interjections’ ______.
A. decorative role in conversation B. rank-related function in grammar
C. regulatory power in dialogue flow D. evolutionary origin in pronunciation
29. What does the underlined word “ubiquitous” in paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Universal. B. Complex. C. Limited. D. Formal.
30. What is paragraph3 mainly about
A. The functions of interjections. B. The signals’ cultural differences.
C. Regulations in a conversation. D. The global incidence of interjections.
31. What does the IKEA furniture example illustrate
A. Listeners use interjections to demonstrate authority.
B. Context decides interjections’ interpretation difference.
C. Task-directed conversations require more interjections.
D. Speakers adapt interjections based on listeners’ feedback.
D
Since it’s hot during the summer vacation, did you treat yourself to some ice cream What was your favorite flavor Today let’s talk about ice cream.
While many people think of ice cream as a modern Western invention, it actually existed (存在) as early as the Tang Dynasty. Back then, it wasn’t called ice cream, though. Instead, it was known as “su shan” or “su he shan”.
“Su” was a milk product which is similar to cream or butter. It is believed to have been introduced to central China by nomads (游牧民族) from the north. “Su” was not only tasty but also nutritious (营养丰富的).
According to some historical records, “su shan” was often made by women. They would heat “su” until it melted and then carefully pour it onto a plate, shaping it into the form of a mountain or coral reef (珊瑚礁). Afterwards, they would freeze it in an icebox. Sometimes, sugar was sprinkled on top. The dessert might also be decorated with some flowers and leaves to make it look more attractive.
In the poem Ode to Su He Shan, the poet in the Tang Dynasty Wang Lingran described how people enjoyed “su shan”. He wrote, “it disappears as soon as it touches your teeth.” In The Noble Lady (《仕女图》), a famous fresco (湿壁画) found in the tomb of Crown Prince Zhanghuai, two out of the six ladies are holding “su shan”. At first, researchers thought they were holding potted plants. Upon closer examination, they concluded that it was something more like today’s ice cream, with flowers on top.
“Su shan” was a popular dish during the Tang and Song dynasties. However, only wealthy people and royalty (王室成员) could afford large iceboxes to prepare this summer treat. Luckily, today, we can all enjoy ice cream whenever we want!
32. According to the text, what was “su” made from
A. Milk B. Sugar and ice
C. Flowers and leaves D. Potted plants
33. Who could enjoy “su shan” in ancient times
A. Ice makers and cooks B. Women and children
C. Wealthy families and royalty D. Common people in summer
34. Which sentence uses “sprinkle” with the same meaning as the underlined word
A. “Farmers sprinkled seeds in the field.”
B. “She sprinkled salt into the soup.”
C. “News of the victory was sprinkled across the country.”
D. “He sprinkled water on the flowers every morning.”
35. Which is the best title of the passage
A The Invention of Iceboxes in China
B. Desserts in Ancient Chinese Poems
C. How Royalty Enjoyed Summer Treats
D. Ice Cream’s Surprising History in China

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使其构成一篇完整的短文。
On a cold winter day, Li Ming found an injured puppy on his way home from school. The puppy was curled (蜷缩) up beside a snow pile, shaking, with its hind leg seemingly hurt and its tiny body shaking from the cold. Li Ming bent down and gently touched the puppy’s head, noticing the fear and helplessness in its eyes. He felt a burst of sadness and knew he couldn’t leave the little creature there. Immediately, he took off his scarf (围巾), carefully covered the puppy, and held it in his arms.
“Don’t be afraid, I’ll help you,” Li Ming said softly, trying to comfort the shaking puppy. He decided to take the puppy home, even though he knew his parents might not agree to keep a pet. As he walked, he thought about how to convince his parents. “Maybe if I show them how much I care, they’ll understand,” he said to himself.
When he arrived home, Li Ming quietly carried the puppy to his room. He dried its body with a towel (毛巾), making sure to be extra gentle around the injured leg. Then, he found some old clothes and made a plain bed for the puppy in the corner of his room. The puppy seemed to relax a little, its shaking dying. Li Ming also gave it some water and a small piece of bread, which the puppy ate eagerly, wagging its tail (摇尾巴) weakly.
That night, Li Ming lay in bed, staring at the ceiling (天花板), filled with worry. He didn’t know how serious the puppy’s injury was or how his parents would react. He imagined different situations — some where his parents criticized him, others where they allowed him to keep the puppy. But no matter what, he knew he couldn’t give up this poor little life. As he dropped off to sleep, he dreamed of the puppy running happily in a sunny field, its tail wagging joyfully.
Para 1. The next morning, Li Ming woke up to find the puppy missing from its bed.

Para 2. A few days later, the puppy’s condition gradually improved.

【67题答案】
【答案】
The next morning, Li Ming woke up to find the puppy missing from its bed. Panicked, he rushed out of his room, only to see his parents standing in the living room, their expressions unreadable. His heart sank as he noticed the puppy curled up on the couch, wrapped in a blanket. His father cleared his throat and said, “We found it this morning. Why didn’t you tell us ” Li Ming hesitated, then explained how he had found the puppy and couldn’t bear to leave it in the cold. To his surprise, his mother sighed and said, “We understand, but you should have told us sooner. We’ll take it to the vet today.” Relief washed over Li Ming as he realized his parents weren’t angry — they were concerned. Thanks to everyone’s care, the puppy began to regain its strength.
A few days later, the puppy’s condition gradually improved. Something unexpected happened that changed everything. The vet had confirmed the puppy’s leg was sprained but would heal with care. Li Ming’s parents, seeing how devoted he was to the little dog, started to warm up to the idea of keeping it. One evening, as the puppy playfully chased a ball in the living room, Li Ming’s father smiled and said, “Maybe having a pet isn’t such a bad idea after all.” From then on, the puppy became a beloved member of the family, bringing joy and laughter to their home. Li Ming couldn’t have been happier — his act of kindness had not only saved a life but also brought his family closer together.
