Once when I was like nine years old a kid from my neighborhood gave me a rock, littered with yellow crystals, that he’d found in his granny’s backyard. He said it was a geode(晶球). I didn’t know what that meant, but I thought crystals were cool; I’d only ever seen them in the shops at the mall. I showed the gift to my aunt who then gave me a book on rocks that my cousin had outgrown. She explained how there were all sorts of different rocks out there, and how there was a whole science — called geology — devoted to collecting and studying them.
Because it was summer, and because I was sure I’d make an even better geologist than my cousin or the neighbor kid, I decided to give it a try. Using one of the little hand-shovels from my pop’s garden, I explored the banks of the shallow river that ran along the edge of our backyard and dug around in the little forest down the street. But all I ever turned up was the same old blue slate(石板) that we already had in spades on the side of our house. The rock book was a tease; it contained many pretty things, but none of them were to be found within the few-mile-radius(半径) through which I was allowed to ride my bike without my parents’ permission.
After a few weeks, I gave up and moved on to botany. We had awesome flower and vegetable gardens in our yard and it was far more satisfying to plant and grow and harvest (and eat!) our little crop of tomatoes and zucchini and corn than it was to search for things that might be pretty but were near impossible to find and had no practical value anyway. My failed attempt at geology had embarrassed me. And in my embarrassment, I had concluded that all of geology was foolish (I think I even threw the book away).

C.Geology was more interesting than botany for the author. .
D.Geology had some practical value for the author.

Kristin Schell is the founder of The Turquoise Table, a movement of ordinary people who want to create community right in their own front yards. Ten years ago, she and her family moved to a new home in Austin, Texas.
One day, Kristin tried to connect with her new neighbors by hosting a party. She bought a few picnic tables but the delivery driver set one table down in her front yard by mistake. “After the party, I painted the table turquoise — my favorite color — and put it in the front yard, just a few feet from the sidewalk,” she says.
That turquoise table became the place where Kristin and her kids hung out. They played games, did crafts and ate snacks. “We got intentional about where we spent our time,” Kristin says. “We became ‘front yard people’.”
Neighbors began to stop by to introduce themselves and sit down for a chat. Kristin invited people to join her at the table for coffee or iced tea. Then neighbors asked Kristin if their family could put a picnic table in their front yard too. A movement was born. “It was a simple way to slow down and connect with others,” she says. The turquoise table was inviting and had a shared feel.
People often hesitate to invite others into their homes. They think their house is too messy, it’s not big enough or they don’t have enough time. “Our perfectionism can cause us to miss out on the joy of connecting with others,” Kristin says. Her picnic table takes away the excuses — and the pressure.
She likes how it enables her to take a small step toward easing loneliness and building relationships in her community. “People’s greatest need is to know that they are loved and that they belong,” she says.
A decade after their Texas beginnings, thousands of Turquoise Tables exist in all 50 states and in 13 countries around the world. Not all of them are actually turquoise. “No matter what color it is, it’s a friendship table,” Kristin says.

When I got home after dropping out of college in my junior year because of depression, I didn’t want to get out of bed every day. But my parents wanted me to, so I just removed myself from the living room to the couch. Sometimes I would turn on the TV and watch marathons, but mostly I just sat there, lost in thought.
One day when I was lying on the couch, not knowing what to do, I thought since I had been out of school for a long time, I had better do something productive in my life. I looked at what I could do. I could attend online college classes, go to in-person events just to get out of the house, or take up a hobby. But none of these things made me happy, and my depression seemed to follow me inseparably.
However, there was something that was my thing. No matter what kind of day I’m having now, the mere mention of start-ups still cheers me up. I have been doing business in some kinds of forms ever since I was a kid, and despite everything, this enthusiasm has always been in my heart.
So I started thinking of ideas, seeing which one could become practical. I spent my days being glued to a wide purple notebook and a pen in hand, sometimes moving from the couch to the table on our back porch (门廊) in the mornings. If I got up early enough, I’d watch the sun come up. It was there, in the still mornings, that I learned about life and started to look back on mine.
With time going on, the depression started to lift. I was making more progress in my recovery, and the good days were more frequent than the bad. I started a couple of different businesses, eventually settling on a web design business, and did a lot of experiments, which changed my ideas. After a period of time, things started to work.

The Most Admirable Person Around Me
Nowadays many teenagers are crazy about the young idols but for me the person I admire the most is my father.
My father is a typical father .He doesn’t talk much but the things he does for me will never less. My father never misses the important moment for me. When other students are complaining about their fathers, I feel so lucky to get enough care from him.
My father always tells me that I should finish my own job first. Thanks to him, I keep the good habit of study. My father is a great person for me, who sets the good example and influences me all the time.
67.Abanazar just couldn’t wait to rub the lamp. Just in a flash, the ginnee appeared, “What’s your wish,my master ”. Envied Aladdin for so long, Abanazar was desperate to take everything from him, including his wealth, the grand palace, his wife and even his life. “But I shall not kill people,” the jinnee refused. With some dissatisfaction, Abanazar ordered the jinnee to carry all back to Morocco. Soon, when Aladdin was back home from hunting, he was too shocked to utter a word at the sight. His happiness was stolen! Annoyed, his mind was in chaos. His tears were welling up and dropped down on the floor, coinciddently on the magic seven black stones. The stones informed Aladdin of the truth and only if he found the magic lamp was he able to get everything back to Arabia. Aladdin got on the journey to Morocco, avenging.(142)
It was many, many miles from Arabia to Morocco, but Aladdin was there in a second. With the help of the seven black stones, Aladdin not only found his palace but also the princess soon. “I apologized for my ignorant, but Abanazar always carries the lamp with himself.”the guilty princess was crying. Aladdin comforted her and gave her some sleeping- powder from the magic stones, telling her to do as she was told and slid to hide in another room. Minutes later, Abanazar was in. The princess pretended to be happy to see him and suggested a drink with him. Abanazar accepted it with pleasure and fell into sleep, forever. From Abanazar’s pocket,Aladdin found the magic lamp and rubbed it. Noise, fire and red smoke came out, and happiness came back to Aladdin again. (125)
