You may already know that hurricanes can be dangerous. They start on the warm sea and can bring strong winds and heavy rain. When a hurricane comes to land, it brings sea water onto the land. When it comes together with heavy rain, there can be dangerous floods. The center of a hurricane is called the eye. Most hurricanes bring dangerously strong winds, but the eye is quite different. The eye of a hurricane is a calm place. When the eye of a hurricane
passes, the weather might be fine, and people might think that the hurricane stops, but soon the
winds and rain may come again.
The National Hurricane Center is in Miami, Florida. It issues watches and warnings (发布警戒和警告) before hurricanes come close to land. Sometimes, if a hurricane is strong enough, people should leave their homes and travel to a safer place.
Do you know what it is like to fly a plane through a hurricane If you’re a hurricane hunter (飓风观测员), it’s your job! Hurricane hunters help the National Hurricane Center know more about hurricanes, and give them the information they need to issue useful warnings.

阅读下面的短文,根据文中信息完成文后表格。(每空一词)
What if there is a fire in your house Would you like to know what to do Here are a few suggestions that can help you out of the fire.
Leaving the house through a door should be your first choice as an escape route (逃生路线). Windows on a higher floor may be a safe escape route if you could get help from another person.
If you can see smoke in the house, stay low to the ground as you go to the door. In a fire, smoke and poisonous (有毒的) air may hurt people. You’ll take in less smoke if you stay close to the ground.
If fire or smoke is blocking (堵塞) an escape route, don’t hide under the bed. If you do this,
firemen will have difficulty finding you. The sooner they find you, the sooner you can get out.
At the same time, keep heat and smoke from getting through the door by blocking the cracks (缝隙) around the door with blankets or clothing. If there is a window, open it all the way, stand in front of it and shout for help. If you can get a piece of clothing, cover your mouth to keep from taking in the smoke. This works even better if you make the clothing wet first.
If your clothes catch fire during a fire, don’t run! You’d better stop, drop to the ground and roll. This will cut off the air and put out the fire.

十、Sample writing
The environmental problems are becoming more and more serious. There are more and more factories and cars today. They make lots of air pollution and noise pollution. People cut down many trees to make paper or build houses. That makes land desertification. And lots of animals lose their homes.
We can do a lot to protect the environment. For example, we can go to school or work by public transportation. Then there will be less air pollution. We can use both sides of paper. We can also plant more trees.
Everyone should play a part in protecting the environment.
